Your Home Owners

Hi, Katherine and Matt here. Welcome to our home away from home. That's right - we are from away. We live in Ottawa where we work full-time and are raising our two beautiful girls.

We are so pleased to share this vacation spot with people who love exploring remote and quaint little communities as much as we do. While some travel south for their vacations, we are ones who typically seek northern, quiet, open landscapes. We absolutely love it up here - Where the influence of kind people, living simply but meaningfully, is as much a part of what shapes each day as the astounding beauty that sits at our doorstep.

We now travel up to Hay Cove two or three times per year and rent out both the main house and the cabin the rest of the time.

We come to cultivate a habit of retreating from all things that distract us from our connections to ourselves, to each other, and to the natural world. Come and you'll get what we mean. It happens without any effort of needing to do anything.

Please explore our website and contact us if you have any questions.

Is Hay Cove for you?

Traveling up to Hay Cove for a night or two to visit the L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site is one thing (and worth the trip).

If you can afford a longer stay, however, we highly recommend it. This place really is a hidden travel gem. It's also the kind of place that can inspire creativity, cultivate a sense of rejuvenation, and provide respite from the increasing summer heat.

It's a quiet, peaceful cove. The viking site is an easy walk down the road, and there are tons of stunning hiking paths up through the headlands that you can get to right from our property, as well as plenty of restaurants and live music nearby.

You just might get lucky enough to see some icebergs or whales right out the window while curled up by the wood stove, depending on the time of year you visit.

In the winter months, snowmobiling, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, are among the top choice activities.

Also know that this is the kind of place where you can create your own adventure: talk to the local people, make friends, find out what's in season, discover off the beaten path activities, and just let each day unfold magically.

Our invitation

If you have made it this far in your reading, it must be because you are intrigued. So, please don't hesitate to get in touch and we can help you plan your stay. Every season has something wonderful to offer up here. If we don't have the answers to some of your questions, we can contact some of our Hay Cove neighbours who would.

By and large, we invite you to gift yourself some time in this magical place - to gift yourself a self-guided retreat in what we consider to be one of Canada's hidden gems. We invite you to turn off your cell phones (you likely won't have great reception anyways), to connect with yourself, or your travel companions, meet some of the wonderful local fishermen and residents, and to certainly spend time with Mother Nature and her many blessings.

You will feel refreshed and give yourself thanks for it.
